Climatologist

about me

I'm Becky and I'm the Assistant State Climatologist at the Colorado Climate Center with Colorado State University. My passion is climate services. I like to get climate data and information to people who can use it to make decisions. My days include monitoring current climate conditions around the state of Colorado, answering media questions, presenting to different audiences (including farmers and water managers), providing climate data, and communicating climate issues to students, other scientists, and the general public. Here on my page, you'll find a sample of some of my media interviews, articles I've written, and products I've developed that use climate data.

3rd Edition of the Climate Change in Colorado Report
Published on January 8, 2024

The core mission of the report is to describe recent trends in Colorado's climate and hydrology and interpret the model-based projections of future climate and hydrology. Proportionately more of this report is devoted to extreme climate-driven events - including heat waves, droughts, wildfires, and floods - than the previous reports. The overall societal impacts of climate change will be driven by changes in these extreme events as well as by changes in the average climate.

County Precipitation Tool
This tool was developed for Livestock Wx to help ranchers determine the precipitation characteristics in their county. Many times, average precipitation is not a useful metric. Select a county and a timescale to see the entire distribution of precipitation for that time period. You'll notice that it might not follow a normal distribution, and for certain parts of the country, precipitation is below average more often than above average.
